So in Martial arts related news today:
This this story is courtesy of BigWOWO; apparently some right wing fundamentalist Christians and one part of the US are questioning the motives of having yoga being taught in elementary school. This is a bit of a no-brainer since what I find is that right-wing fundamentalists tend to see things in black and white and if it doesn’t conform to “their” form of Christianity, then it’s obviously a threat to their “Christianity”.
Eady is part of a group of parents working with Dean Broyles, president and chief counsel of the Escondido-based National Center for Law and Policy.
“And then the question becomes — if it is religious, which it is, who decides when enough religion has been stripped out of the program to make it legal?” Broyles says. “I mean, that’s the problem when you introduce religion into the curriculum and actually immerse and marinate children in the program.”
Here is the original article from NPR. Honestly, I feel that these parents are just part of the whole movement of “oversensitivity” here in America where traditional “white Christians” are simply reactive and afraid of how their monopoly like influence in American culture is slowly giving away to other cultures and their respective customs, influences, and “instruments” (no other word to describe it).
Next up is a little known video that I found on Facebook. It’s a video featuring Iran’s (possibly only) female TaeKwonDo champion. My apologies that it’s only in Farsi, but the story behind this women – who’s 26 years old – is that in a country where women are constantly seen as second class, she is defying the odds. Now she’s a teacher of the art to little girls. She’s something!
