Training Update – The Little Things

Aikido shomenI was thoroughly embarrassed by my performance today during training – I was doing morotetori kokyuho and I was partnered with a white belt that was rather large.

I was fine at first, but later my mind was going nuts over…something. It was as if I went from a brown belt to a white belt in a matter of seconds. Frustrating to say the least.

Then Sensei comes over, and said something that reversed whatever the hell was blocking my mind. I don’t remember exactly, something of “putting myself out there” and “whatever happened in the past is the past.”

He continued by stating a quote from the movie Batman Begins: It’s not who you are, it’s what you do that defines you. Now looking back, my sensei gave me a reminder of who I am and how movements are suppose to be done through me.

After training about 12 of us including sensei went out for lunch and coffee, resulting in a hangout that lasted from 2 to 5pm. All in all a frustrating day since in the end my mind became a cloud of soup and I couldn’t even pull off the technique.

The journey continues.

  1. Love the way you expressed “how movements are suppose to be done through me.” Thank you for sharing your journey. We are beginning to try the next group of brown belts for their 3rd and 1st kyu. Has been fun. Nice background art too. ^_^

    1. Haha glad to hear from you Flo, I had thought you had gone into hibernation (again). As for the background, why thank you – I was wondering what your option was.
