Aikido is a transformational art, not a technique-based art! [August 12, 2013]
Said NSS (my other Sensei) in last night’s training. This was in particular after I wanted him to critique a technique of mine (sankyo) in front of the whole class. He stated that from the way I moved, I was more interested in “the hit” – accomplishing the technique – rather than allowing myself to be transformed first – then letting the technique complete itself.
The main lesson here: allowing yourself to transform into the person who does the technique appropriately, rather than simply “doing it” at your current state of being/existence.
